Trying to Keep Cool

Shady Porch, Bailey House, Maui, HI.

During these hot, muggy, rainy days of August, we’d all like to find a cool dry place to sit and relax.  This photo of the porch of the Bailey House in Maui, HI looks like it fits the bill to me.  Just looking at this photo conveys a sense of cool relaxation.  It’s amazing how photos can set a mood, tell a story, or convey a feeling.  With a cool drink at my side I could easily spend some serious time in a setting like this, just chillin’.

About Kolman Rosenberg

My interest in photography began as a college newspaper and yearbook photographer during the stormy 1960s and 1970s. I was influenced by many of the great photojournalists and documentary photographers such as W. Eugene Smith, Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, Gordon Parks, Margaret Bourke-White and other black and white photographers of Life Magazine and the earlier Farm Security Administration. Though many of these photographers documented the horrors of war and the plight of poverty, they also showed me the dignity and adaptability of human beings in their desire to prevail.
