Chandler Steering Wheel and Dashboard
A few weeks ago I posted some photos from the Western Reserve Historical Society’s Crawford Auto Aviation Museum. Today, I’m posting a few shots of some small details of two antique automobiles from the museum’s collection. One vehicle, a Chandler, I had never heard of before. The other, a Peerless, is a name that is a little better known. The photos show that in terms of construction detail and materials, they don’t make them like this anymore!

About Kolman Rosenberg
My interest in photography began as a college newspaper and yearbook photographer during the stormy 1960s and 1970s. I was influenced by many of the great photojournalists and documentary photographers such as W. Eugene Smith, Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, Gordon Parks, Margaret Bourke-White and other black and white photographers of Life Magazine and the earlier Farm Security Administration. Though many of these photographers documented the horrors of war and the plight of poverty, they also showed me the dignity and adaptability of human beings in their desire to prevail.
Wonderful photographs as usual. We were in the old car hobby for about 30 years. They don’t make ’em like that anymore. All those wonderful details, much of was so artistic.

Ah, the Chandler! I remember (from childhood, which was much longer ago than it seems) the song “Dearie,” with the lines “Do you recall/when Henry Ford couldn’t even fix/The running board under a Chandler six.” (Here are the full lyrics: http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/d/dearie.shtml.)
And now that song will be my mindworm until something else comes along to take its place. It replaces “Daddy Played the Trombone in a Dixieland Band.”
I hope your table enjoyed its breakfast as much as we did ours. Good to see you!

Thanks Lenore! I never would have dreamt that the Chandler was in a song! I checked out the lyrics! I guess I missed it by a few years but saw some of the singers who sang it listed and I certainly remember some of them!
Yes, we had a nice breakfast at the diner, nice seeing you also!
